Buetti Viola Concert Consortium:
PREMIERE DATE: NOVEMBER 11th, 2022 by PORTLAND COLUMBIA SYMPHONY
The Buetti Viola Concerto Consortium is a group formed to commission a new Concerto for Viola and Orchestra by composer Nicole Buetti. Portland Columbia Symphony will premiere the piece with acclaimed viola soloist Brett Deubner upon its completion. As the circumstances surrounding the health and safety of live events continue to unfold, the work’s performance is anticipated to occur toward the end of the 2021-2022 Season, or during the 2022-2023 Season.
The Concerto will be a three-movement work in memory of Nicole’s father, Lt. Col. Anthony Buetti – West Point Class 1966. After a long and joyous life, he was severely affected by the lingering after-effects of exposure to Agent Orange decades before. The three movements of the piece each draw inspiration from Anthony’s struggle with declining health due to the effects of Agent Orange and the undiagnosed sicknesses that it inflicted. Movement one is titled Descent, the second movement is Loss, and the final movement is Ascension. The entire piece will be approximately 18 minutes long, and involve one soloist and 40-60 musicians in the orchestra.
By joining this consortium, you will honor the legacy and memory of Lt. Col. Buetti, as well as thousands of others of our Armed Forces who have struggled with health problems following exposure to Agent Orange while serving our country. As a member, you will be recognized as one of the commissioning parties. Your name will appear in the published musical score, and any publications of this piece forthwith. You will receive a personal invitation to the premiere performance, and a recording of the performance.
If you are interested in joining the consortium, please contact us!
