In A World...

Worldwide Horror Myths and Legend A fantastic new Halloween/Horror CD! This is our newest collection of horror music inspired by myths and legends from around the world. Each track is a musical and/or sound design interpretation of a particular myth or legend from the specified country.Worldwide Horror - Volume 1 - Myths and Legends The first installment of our musical tributes to Horror myths and legends from around the world. We traveled to many destinations round the globe for our latest cd . Italy, Tunisia, England, France, Alaska, Seattle, Australia, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Rochester NY to name a few. Many of the melodies were written abroad and intensive research was compiled from accounts and libraries round the world. Many indigenous instruments were also recorded to bring a true authenticity to the cues. Each Myth or Legend originated from a different country. Here are the stories behind them: 1. The Sirens – Greece (οι Σειρήνες): The Sirens are Greek Mythology’s femme fatales. They lure sailors with their enchanting voices and songs towards the rocky coast of their Isle. Sailors were said to be enchanted, dive into the waters towards the music of the Sirens and be drowned or even devoured. Ships would also wreck on the rocks stranding the sailors to their fate with the Sirens. In this track, we follow a sailor that is ensnared by the Siren’s song, and dives in after them, only to be dragged down into the depths of the ocean. 2. Dia De Los Muertos - Mexico: Dia De Los Muertos is a holiday of Mexican origin. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The day of the dead is a celebration of life and honoring the dead. This track features fun, uplifting music interspersed with the calls of ghosts and spirits who have come to join in (take over) the celebration. 3. Spirits Attack (Haunted House) - USA: This track was inspired by the story of the Haunting in Connecticut. The story is of a family that moves into a house that was formerly used as a mortuary. Two of the children (boys) shared a bedroom in the basement where they were plagued by the demonic presence of the morticians that were allegedly involved in necromancy. A truly terrifying story of people being attacked in their home by spirits. There are so many haunted house stories in the US, that we created our own sound design interpretation. (Even more scary in the dark with headphones.) 4. Yowie Dreamtime: Yowies are creatures that are believed to live in the Australian outback according to aboriginal mythology. They are similar in appearance descriptions to the North American Sasquatch. The aboriginals venerate them as sacred creatures from the Dreamtime. Dreamtime is a place beyond time and space in which the past, present, and future exist wholly as one. Tribes-people could enter this alternate universe through dreams or various states of altered consciousness, as well as death. Dreamtime is considered the final destination before reincarnation. In this track we feature our version of ethereal aboriginal music and our own versions of yowie cries that would be heard while the Yowies communicate to each other that they are closing in on their prey. 5. La Strega (The Witch)- Italy: La Strega literally means “The Witch” in Italian. The mythology states that the Strega can transform into a bird like a crow or owl and attack children and infants. In this track we invoke the flight of the Strega as it searches for prey. 6. Encantado (Descent into Madness) – Brazil (Descida à loucura): This creature is from Brazilian folklore. The Encantado is thought to have shape-shifting abilities, musical abilities, seduction, and the ability to drive one to insanity, illness and death. They are said to enchant, haunt and even kidnap. In this track, we have the listener experience the descent into madness by hearing an Encantado playing a mysterious instrument that’s playing and song becomes more and more warped as the enchantment of madness progresses. 7. Dreamcatcher (Shaman Ghost Dance) – Native America- Ojibwe : Dreamcaters were originally developed by the Ojibwe people. Ojibwe legends speak of a spider woman (Asibikaashi) that took care of the children in the land. To extend Asibikaashi’s reach, women would weave web like designs over willow hoops to create the dreamcatcher that would filter out (or catch) the bad dreams and only let the good dreams pass down to the children. The Ghost Dance is a traditional ritual which has been used by many Native Americans since ancient times. The ghost dance is believed to reunite the spirits of the dead with the living and bring peace, unity and prosperity to the native peoples throughout the region. As the Ghost Dance spread Native American tribes adopted selective aspects of the ritual with their own beliefs. In this track we create our own darker version of a ghost dance ritual that is trying to force the nightmares that were caught up in the dreamcatcher back to where they came from. 8. Yokai Monsters - Oni – Japan (妖怪モンスター鬼): Yokai are supernatural apparitions or monsters from Japanese folklore. Oni are the ones who bring disasters and death. These malicious beings feed on human flesh; some say they can eat a person in one gulp! Such oni are believed to be the spirits of the deceased who carried resentment during their lifetime, and the spirits of malicious or jealous women are particularly feared … usually depicted with red, blue, brown or black skin, two horns on its head, a wide mouth filled with fangs, and wearing nothing but a tigerskin loincloth. In this cue, we are creating an homage to early Japanese cinema music (Yokai monster movies). 9. Vesuvius and the Ghosts of Pompeii - Italy - Vesuvio e sui Fantasmi di Pompei: The eruption of Vesuvius in AD79 and the burial of Pompeii is one of the most popular historical disasters of all time. While wondering the ruins of Pompeii, one can almost hear the screams and the voices of the souls that were buried there. In this track we feature our own volcano, and the voices of the ghosts that still inhabit it. 10. Rituel vaudou –Haiti : Principal forms of communication and contact with Vodou’s mistè include prayer, praise, ablutions, offerings, spirit possession, drum and dance ceremonies, divination, and animal sacrifice, or more frequent personal devotions such as praising and feeding the lwa. Healing, meanwhile, often involves herbalism and ritual baths. Leaves, water, song, dance, drums, blood, healing, and communion with the sacred which is what Vodou is truly about. In this track we focus on the Vodou drumming and ceremonies are often associated Haitian Vodou. Haititan Vodou ceremonies are a ritualistic faith system that consist of singing / chanting, drumming and dancing. 11. Pied Piper of Hamelin (Rats) – Germany Rattenfänger von Hameln: The Pied Piper is a German folktale. In the year 1284 the Pied Piper, a mysterious wanderer attired in a coat of many colours, offers to rid the town of Hamelin of a plague of rats. He enchants the rats by playing a magical flute and then lures them away. But when the city fathers of Hamlin go back on their promise to pay the piper handsomely for his work, the piper exacts revenge by playing his flute for the town of Hamlin’s children and leading them away into a mountain cavern, where they disappear forever. In this track we focus on the rats. (Volume 2 will feature the second half of this creepy tale.) 12. Frozen Yeti Ice Cave – Nepal फ्रोजें येति इचे: In Tibetan the word Yeti means "magical creature" a seemingly supernatural enigma in the shape of a hairy, biped creature. The Yeti is an ape-like cryptid taller than an average human, similar to Bigfoot, which reputedly inhabits the Himalayan region of Nepal, and Tibet. The word Yeti is derived from a compound of Tibetan words that essentially translate as “man-bear” or as “cattle bear”, referring to the Himalayan brown bear. A Yeti is more commonly known as the abominable snowman. They are said to inhabit the Himalayas in Nepal and Tibet. In this track we feature the sound design of a Yeti in its cave habitat. 13. Mummy’s Minions – Egypt التوابع المومياء: The ancient Egyptians believed that the human spirit was permanently linked to the viability of the body, so it was necessary to preserve the body in order to achieve immortality in the afterlife. Egyptians believed that the body needed to be preserved intact to serve as a host for the soul. An estimated 70 million mummies were made in Egypt over a 3,000-year period. There are many stories, myths and legends connected to the mummy. Most are stories of curses being connected to the mummies to prevent grave robbers from raiding tombs. In this track, our story features a mummy coming back to life to lead and army of the dead.
Just Be You! Upbeat, fun, educational music that kids and families will love! features our puppet characters "The Nirks" from our Popular Youtube videos. We are so excited to share our new songs with you! We think you will really enjoy these 10 new songs (plus sing-a-long tracks!) that not only entertain but encourage learning, moving and having fun. In A World Music began a decade ago writing music for Halloween and Horror. Our Halloween albums have been licensed for film, television, and even for Halloween events like Knott’s Scary Farm. One Halloween, while we were putting on a neighborhood haunt and blasting our creepy music, a friend asked us, kind of jokingly, to create a children’s CD for Halloween because our music was a little too intense and scary for their little ones. We thought that was a great idea, and we released our first children’s CD, “My Halloween,” filled with catchy kid’s songs in 2008. We wanted to make it even more accessible to children, and so the Nirks (named after us, Nicole and Dirk!) were born. Being very low budget, we created puppets out of recycled materials and literally stuff we found in the garage for our first puppet video, “Trick-or-Treat, “ and it got an incredible response from fans on YouTube! We are so thankful for that support, and it encouraged us to create many more kid’s songs (not just for Halloween) and many other videos starring our Nirks characters. We love making children happy, and keeping families laughing as well as helping them learn and have fun. The New Album: The new album is entitled Just Be You! This Project is particularly special to us because we wrote songs inspired by our friends and family. Our featured Single, “I’m Me,” is for anyone who ever feels like it’s tough to just be yourself, especially when other people don’t understand, are mean to you, or even think you’re just plain weird! As self-proclaimed oddballs, we relate extremely well to this song! All of our Nirks are unique and quirky (like us) and celebrate being different, special and (especially!) weird. Our other songs are all about fun topics that we love, or something that is special to someone close to us. Here is a list of the new songs and what they are about. Tracks: 1. The Nirks – This is a brand new theme song for our puppet characters, the Nirks! 2. I’m Me – A song about just being yourself! This is the most personal track on the album, and it’s based on not only our experiences, but many of our friends as well (we love our weird friends!) 3. What Makes A Train Go? - This song is all about steam trains and how they work! It is dedicated to Nicole’s husband Jason – who loves trains, and is the most supportive husband in the universe! 4. Meet the Planets – This song was a request from Nicole’s father, who loves astronomy, space, and science, and instilled that love in his children. It’s a fun introduction to each of the plants in our solar system, and some of their unique traits. 5. I Wanna Be A Dancer – Nicole’s sister, who is a wonderful ballerina, inspired this song. It’s about the dream of growing up to be a dancer! 6. Let’s Make Some Shapes – When Nicole needed a little help with math, her father would stay up and tutor her at night, even after a full day of work. He always tried to make it fun, and this song about Geometry is all about how to make and understand various shapes. 7. Halloween – This is a song about Halloween, the Nirk’s FAVORITE holiday! It was written for Dirk’s family and girlfriend, who LOVE Halloween, and really go all out for it every year! 8. My Best Friend – Dirk wrote this song for HIS best friend! 9. Flying on A Plane – Remember your first plane ride? It was exciting and fun, right? Have you flown recently? Maybe not so much fun now… We LOVE traveling, seeing new places and trying new things, but judging by our last few flights, some people still can’t seem to figure how flying works. Maybe if we teach ‘em young and make it fun, it will go smoother and less stressful for us all! 10. Cleaning My Room – Make picking up your room fun! This one is about Dirk and Nicole - two of the messiest people ever to wander the earth. When filming, the house looks like a puppet massacre… PLUS - Another 10 tracks with instrumental versions of every song so you can sing along (kid’s karaoke!) or even make up your own words! We can’t Thank You enough for your continued support of our insanity. Our fans, and all the little kids out there singing our songs and watching our videos are what keep us going!
